There are so many amazing men and women we meet along this journey to support caregivers however we are able. This month, the Cocktails & Caregivers Foundation is honored to share the story of an Our Tribe grant recipient, Catherine, who truly embodies our motto, love deep.
In February 2023, Catherine was eight months pregnant and about to give birth to her third child, when her husband, Joseph, was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Now, mother to three young children, her husband in the last year and a half has lost his ability to walk, most of the use of his hands, relying on a feeding tube and BiPAP machine, and faces difficulty speaking. Catherine is a full-time caregiver, caring for all of his needs around the clock, striving to preserve his dignity especially in front of their children.
When we say love deep, it is caregivers like Catherine who show us just how deep a caregivers love goes. Catherine feeds her husband, helps him in and out of the hospital and to doctors appointments while also caring for their children.
The Our Tribe grant program provides funding to families facing the unimaginable to assist with childcare expenses. Through the generosity of our supporters the Cocktails & Caregivers Foundation was able to pay $2,000 on behalf of the Scrivner family to assist with preschool tuition for their two oldest, Bella and Cody.
