Before cancer touched my life, I had absolutely no idea how to handle people who had it. It kinda freaked me out. I remember so vividly the moment I found out a co-worker of mine had cancer. Some people were crying or jumping in to help. I seemed to sink into the wall behind me and melt down the hall avoiding all eye contact. When it came time to help, I just assumed someone else was doing it. I thought, “Well, I’m not a close friend. He hardly knows me. I’m sure it’d be weird if I acted upset by this.”
It makes me queasy to think back to how I handled situations like this before it was my life.
Maybe I thought cancer was just too big. How could I make a difference? But once we crossed that horrible line where you wonder what it’s like on the other side, to begging to go back, you realize how much power just one person has.
I’d receive cards in the mail, words of encouragement, a gift card, a small thoughtful frame or ornament. Every time I’d get these sweet somethings, I’d know I wasn’t alone. I was on someone’s mind.
It’s what inspired the Cocktails and Chemo care packages for caregivers.
Last month’s caregiver just received her care package in the mail.
She said, it felt like Christmas morning! All of the items were donated and once we get our 501c3 we hope to get more items like this! A bag from Thirty One Gifts, a Stella and Dot clutch, Premier Jewelry, Ulta beauty products, gift cards, ect.
We are hoping to get more bags like these to send monthly. If you want to help make that happen and get your own bag, a friend and consultant is helping by doing an online party. The money will go buying more bags!

So, I guess that’s the back story. If you have ideas of things you could donate, email me at Amanda@CocktailsandChemo.com
We had a couple dozen applicants to be next month’s caregiver! Can’t wait to introduce you to them.
xoxo,
Amanda
