That’s why we devoted our Bad A$$ Mama Blowout party to some of the strongest, most resilient women we knew.
We welcomed twenty moms to Kiss Kiss Bang Bang Salon in Carmel, Indiana for a night of pampering and to help them feel human, re-charge and remind that you can’t give from an empty cup.
So, we filled their cup with blowouts and makeup donated by the salon, then add in live music, yummy gourmet appetizers and gifts for every mama.
Rita Berk is mom to an almost 4 year old daughter with cerebral palsy.
“We found out recently that she has a genetic condition that caused her cerebral palsy; at birth she required two and a half minutes of CPR and we thought that was the cause of it. It has opened my eyes to a lot of things, even as a nurse and seeing what I do. I never know what to expect, day in and day out,” she said as her eyes filled with tears.
“Tonight was great. It was nice to feel special. My husband is doing tonight what I do all day, it is his first time being with her by himself, so we will see how the house is when I get home,” Rita laughed. “Everyone is asking about our experience, and it’s so nice that people care this much, you all made me cry. I want to do something special for you guys like you do for us caregivers.”
Karyn Sullenberger is mom to her 15 year old daughter who has a chromosome deletion and a brain tumor.
“She has gone through chemotherapy for over 2 years in two different time regimens. She also has two other siblings, so it’s a lot work,” said Karyn.
“This event has been so much fun. I do not take care of myself enough. It’s amazing to feel loved and cared for. It’s also perfect timing, because my husband and I’s wedding anniversary is Monday and we are celebrating early by going out for late-night cocktails tonight. This gave me the motivation to go and make it happen!”
Anna Bowling is mama to 7 year old Emma who has spinal muscular atrophy type 1.
“She was diagnosed at 6 months old and we were told she would be lucky if she saw her first birthday. Emma is now a big sister, and she is our whole world,” Anna smiled.
“This event was amazing. I have never done anything like this. As a caregiver, having time to yourself and being pampered and spoiled means the world. I love(d) having interactions with other ladies who ‘get it.'”
