Our mission at Cocktails & Caregivers is to support the incredible caregivers who pour their hearts into caring for their loved ones. No family deserves more than our next Keeping Caregivers Close recipient, the Miller Family.
Sophia, who just finished 7th grade, has shown incredible resilience in the face of adversity. She was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, a type of brain cancer, in 2021, and due to the location of the tumor, she developed Posterior Fossa Syndrome. She lost her voice for seven months, her right side, and Facial Palsy to nerves 5 & 7. She did 30 rounds of Proton Radiation with 54 weeks of chemotherapy. Sophia has since endured countless treatments and challenges, and yet, according to her mom, Melissa,
“Sophia has overcome so many obstacles in 3 years, and I have fought so hard to give her a normal life. She has lost so much from cancer and remains humble.” wrote mom, Melissa
In August of 2021, Melissa sought a Facial Nerve Specialist to help bring Sophia’s smile back and help close her right eye. In November of 2022, Sophia had her first Facial Nerve Graft Surgery in New York City. Sophia went on to have her second surgery in NYC in July 2022. This summer, Sophia will have her final facial nerve graft surgery, and the family will head to NYC in July and remain there for over two weeks. We’re so happy to share that through our Keeping Caregivers Close program, we can financially assist the Miller Family for their trip to New York City.
We invite you to join us in supporting caregivers like Melissa, who dedicate their lives to the well-being of their loved ones. Your contributions to the Cocktails & Caregivers make a difference in families facing immense challenges and allow them to focus on what truly matters. cocktailsandcaregivers.org/donate
