A Life-Changing Diagnosis
Three years ago, Sarah and her family received the heartbreaking news that her mom, Patty, had been diagnosed with a glioblastoma brain tumor. Initially thought to be benign, further tests confirmed the devastating reality. At the time, Patty was super grandma for Sarah’s three young children, allowing Sarah and her husband to focus on their growing careers. But with treatment plans involving chemo and radiation, everything changed.
Without hesitation, Sarah made a life-altering decision—she sold her successful professional organization business, Neat Method, to dedicate her time to her children and her mother’s care. Doctors appointments, treatments, and constant support became her new full-time job. After a grueling year, the family received a miracle—Patty was in remission!
Joy, Setbacks, Resilience, Reality
A short remission brought joy back into their home, allowing Patty to spend more time with her beloved grandchildren. But life had another curveball in store. A few months ago, after experiencing recurrent seizures, the family learned the devastating news: the glioblastoma had returned.
Sarah, her brother EJ, and sister Susy, took on full-time caregiving roles to ensure their mother was never alone.
No one is truly prepared for the role of caregiver. It’s a job filled with love, sacrifice, and an endless to-do list. Sarah’s days are packed to the brim between doctor’s appointments, treatments, therapies, childcare, and running a business with her husband. She often wonders if she’s doing enough, yet the love she pours into her family is immeasurable.
She wishes more people understood the emotional and physical toll caregiving takes. The exhaustion is real, and the moments of personal time are rare. But through it all, her motivation remains steadfast: to ensure her mom is cared for, comforted, and surrounded by love.
Looking Forward with Hope
Despite the setbacks, Sarah and her family refuse to lose hope. They are putting their energy into a clinical trial and hoping for a miracle. The road ahead is uncertain, but what remains clear is the strength of their family bond.
Sarah’s husband and mother-in-law have been incredible pillars of support, stepping up to help with childcare while Sarah devotes her time to her mother’s care. In the coming months, the need for even more support will grow, but Sarah knows one thing for sure—she will continue to show up, love fiercely, and cherish every moment she has with her mom.
