Mark and Haley Chaplin (36) were married for just two years, when Haley was diagnosed initially with Stage 3 Metastatic Triple Negative Breast Cancer in her right breast and lymph nodes, a fast and aggressive form of breast cancer. It is now Stage 4 as it has spread to her right lung. They remain positive that Haley will beat this cancer and keep it away forever. As Mark shared, “we’re (Haley) is fighting this like a boss and I know she will beat this and out live me.” As she faces this long and hard journey, their focus is advocacy and education, hoping by making Haley’s journey public, they will help save someone’s wife, daughter, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, or friend.

Behind the scenes, Mark has been Haley’s rock, sunshine, and cold capper. Cold capping is a device used to reduce hair loss during chemo. A true act of love keeping dry ice available and safely placed on Haley during chemo treatments. With cancer you do not get to control a lot, but Haley’s wish to maintain her hair as long as she can is one small thing she can control, and Mark along with friends and family are graciously doing whatever it takes to help her fulfill this wish. This means not only traveling with his wife to her six months of chemotherapy/immunotherapy, but procuring dry ice and carefully “cold-capping” her during each treatment, a process that takes a lot of hard work.

The future plans for treatment includes double mastectomy surgery and radiation therapy. It is a long road, but Haley and Mark are willing to do whatever they need to do. This includes traveling to Las Vegas, NV to explore some alternate treatments and therapeutic options. Through the generous support of our donors and grantors, Cocktails & Caregivers Foundation was able to provide funds to Mark for his use for traveling with Haley to and from treatment both locally and to Vegas later this month.
