Sweet summertime.
For any little kid, it means school is out, time to swim with friends, catch fireflies, and sidewalk chalk until the best colors run out. But what does it look like when Mom has cancer?
Mama to FOUR–who has time for cancer?!
Ryan McLaughlin, husband of Kelli Abell McLaughlin (44), was shocked to find out his jack-of-all-trades wife was diagnosed with a brain tumor, Glioblastoma, in October 2021. The family resides in Carmel, IN, where Kelli is a local small business owner and an active community member. As a mother of four (their youngest, Harper is just five years old), this diagnosis wasn’t part of their plan. Now she faces the most formidable challenge, an aggressive form of cancer that currently has no cure.
Hope. And Summer Camp.
When diagnosed with cancer, it would be perfectly understandable to think only of how to get through your treatment. But not Kelli! Ryan says, “Kelli is committed to fighting this disease herself and fighting for others by helping raise money towards research in finding a cure.” Dang….what can’t this woman do?!
Each of their kids is deeply impacted by Kelli’s diagnosis, but their youngest, Harper, especially so. Ryan and Kelli want to give her the fun, carefree summer every kiddo deserves. What better way to celebrate summer than with fun outdoor activities? Band camp, anyone??
We, too, want to send Harper to summer camp (whatever she chooses!) to live it up as every five-year-old should! Cocktails & Caregivers is providing a $2,000 grant to the McLaughlin family to help cover costs associated with childcare as they focus on caring for Kelli.
